Up to 40 kilograms of narcotics worth over 14 million GEL seized in Imereti; two foreign nationals arrested
As a result of comprehensive operational measures and investigative actions carried out by officers of the Imereti Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, an organized group of drug offenders has been identified, and the distribution of up to 40 kilograms of narcotics has been thwarted. The Ministry of Internal Affairs released this information.
According to the agency, the estimated value of the seized narcotics on the so-called black market exceeds 14 million GEL. "The investigation established that the two detained foreign nationals were involved in a scheme to distribute narcotic drugs. They would place the drugs at pre-selected locations across several regions of Georgia and subsequently send the relevant coordinates and photographs of the sites to interested parties.
Upon searching the accused individuals and inspecting the locations they had identified, law enforcement officers seized—as evidence—nearly 12 kilograms of methadone (packaged in 117 bundles) and nearly 28 kilograms of hashish (packaged in 267 bundles).
The investigation is proceeding under Articles 260 and 260-4 of the Criminal Code. These offenses carry a penalty of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
Ministry of Internal Affairs personnel are actively continuing the nationwide fight against the illicit trafficking, distribution, and sale of narcotic drugs," the statement reads.
