Conception of the Honorable and Glorious Prophet, Forerunner, and Baptist John; Venerable Mothers Xanthippe and Polyxena (109); Martyr Irais the Virgin (c. 308); Martyrs Andrew, John, and John’s sons Peter and Antoninus (9th century).
Venerable Mothers: Xanthippe and Polyxena were biological sisters who lived during the time of the Lord's holy apostles. They first learned of the divine teachings of Jesus from the Holy Apostle Paul. Both sisters embraced the faith of Christ and subsequently preached it.
Saint Martyr Irais the Virgin was a native of the city of Alexandria. Pagans seized her for confessing Christ and, after subjecting her to severe torture, beheaded her.
Holy Martyrs: Andrew, John, and his sons Peter and Antoninus suffered for the name of Christ in Africa during the reign of the cruel Muslim ruler Ibrahim.
