Eleven individuals—both Georgian and foreign nationals—have been arrested on drug-related charges
Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested the 11 individuals on various occasions on charges of drug-related offenses. The Ministry released this information.
According to the agency, the investigation is proceeding under Articles 260, 261, 19-260, 260 (Part 4), and 265 (Prime) of the Criminal Code, which provide for penalties ranging from imprisonment for up to 20 years to life imprisonment. Citizens of both Georgia and foreign countries have been arrested on charges involving the illegal acquisition and possession of particularly large quantities of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, the facilitation of their sale, and the illegal sowing, growing, and cultivation of plants containing narcotic substances.
Comprehensive investigative actions conducted by law enforcement officers established that the accused were involved in a scheme for the illegal sale of narcotic drugs. They would place drugs at various locations for subsequent distribution, after which they would send the relevant coordinates and photographs to interested parties.
During searches of the accused individuals' persons, residences, and vehicles, as well as at locations indicated by them during an investigative experiment, law enforcement officers seized—as evidence—particularly large quantities of narcotic drugs prepared for sale. These included: 192 packets of methadone, as well as Suboxone, ketamine, hashish, tetrahydrocannabinol, 150 pills containing pregabalin, and more than a kilogram... "Marijuana" and the "cannabis" plant.
Among the detainees is an individual whom law enforcement officers targeted by substituting a parcel addressed to them, resulting in the seizure of an especially large quantity of a psychotropic substance.
"As a result of investigative actions, the police also seized materials used for packaging narcotics and money presumably obtained from the sale of narcotics," the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
