Not a single case regarding incidents in the penitentiary system has been investigated, while public suspicion continues to grow – Irakli Pavlenishvili

Irakli Pavlenishvili, Chairman of the Governing Council of the "National Movement," commented on the case of convicted prisoner Giorgi Davitadze.

According to him, numerous reports have been released by human rights defenders in recent months regarding the alarming situation within the penitentiary system. "Over the past few months, we have repeatedly seen reports from human rights defenders regarding the alarming situation within the penitentiary system. Prisons are overcrowded, and inmates are speaking out about issues including instances of inhuman treatment. None of these incidents have been investigated.

We also witnessed a harrowing incident in which an individual—a Georgian man—spoke about being raped. This marks the first, unprecedented case in our country's history where a person has personally declared—providing specific testimony—that he was a victim of rape within the penitentiary system.

Regarding this footage, the Minister of Justice made comments that were not merely confusing but actually served to heighten suspicions. Public skepticism is growing ever stronger.

Instead of opening the doors to human rights defenders, international organizations, and journalists, they are making ill-prepared, confusing comments that only fuel further suspicion," stated Pavlenishvili.
