We demand justice, fairness, objectivity, and an impartial investigation – Lana Galdava

Outside the Special Penitentiary Service of Georgia, where a solidarity rally for convicted prisoner Giorgi Davitadze was held, Lana Galdava—one of the leaders of "Strong Georgia-Lelo"—stated that questions regarding the investigation into Giorgi Davitadze's case must be answered. "We demand justice, fairness, and transparency. Regarding the personal search of a prisoner, the law clearly outlines the grounds and details—specifically when and how such a procedure should be conducted. Under no circumstances should such a search be carried out in a manner that is degrading or demeaning to one's dignity.

Therefore, we demand that the Prosecutor's Office provide an explanation within the scope of the investigation: why specific prisoners were taken to the de-escalation room; whether an official record was drawn up and how; how the information was subsequently made public; and whether the footage is continuous or has been edited. These are precisely the questions we have.

This is especially pertinent given that the Minister’s statement only added to the ambiguity surrounding the issue and failed to answer critical questions. On the contrary, he even stated that he did not know the grounds for taking the specific individual to the de-escalation room. This has raised even more questions for us.

We demand justice, fairness, objectivity, and, of course, an impartial and fair investigation. Answers must be provided now." "...the Ministry of Justice, the General Prosecutor's Office, and the penitentiary system," Galdava stated.

Family members, associates, and supporters of Giorgi Davitadze held a protest rally outside the Special Penitentiary Service.

The protesters demonstrated against alleged instances of torture and ill-treatment of a prisoner within the penitentiary system.

Their demands include the resignation of the head of Rustavi Penitentiary Establishment No. 6 and the full, uninterrupted public release of video footage documenting the incident.

Family members stated that they would not cease their protest until their demands are met with an appropriate response.
