A Georgian citizen has been arrested for the illegal handling of the radioactive substance uranium
Officers from the Counter-Intelligence and Special Operations Departments of the State Security Service of Georgia arrested a Georgian citizen for the illegal handling of nuclear material—specifically, the radioactive substance uranium—following a joint operation. The State Security Service released this information.
According to the agency, the investigation is being conducted under Article 230 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
The investigation established that the detainee planned to sell the nuclear material in his possession—Uranium-238—to a foreign national for 700,000 USD.
