"Georgian Dream" is aggressively working to eradicate the final vestiges of democracy in Georgia and establish a dictatorship in the country – Grigol Gegelia
Grigol Gegelia, Foreign Affairs Secretary for "Lelo – Strong Georgia," states that the initiation of proceedings at the Constitutional Court regarding the potential banning of opposition parties is a step toward the establishment of a dictatorship in Georgia.
According to Gegelia, the actions of the "Georgian Dream" government will be met with a stern response from the European Union and the civilized world.
"We see that the 'Georgian Dream' regime is actively and aggressively working to eradicate the final vestiges of democracy in Georgia and to establish a dictatorship in this country." "Of course, the European Union and the entire civilized world will provide an adequate response—one far tougher and more severe than any 'Georgian Dream' supporter can currently imagine," stated Gegelia.
According to him, "Georgian Dream" serves Russia's interests; by initiating a move to ban opposition parties, the party is demonstrating to the world that its true objective is to establish one-party rule.
"We are all well aware that 'Georgian Dream' serves Russia. Through its current actions—including this aggressive, fast-tracked campaign—the 'Georgian Dream' regime is signaling to the entire world that its goal is to create a corrupt, Russian-aligned, one-party quagmire—a dictatorship," he noted.
In Gegelia’s assessment, this development is a continuation of the anti-European course pursued by the Georgian government in recent years, and it will inevitably be met with an appropriate assessment and response.
For context, the Constitutional Court is beginning to review a petition filed by "Georgian Dream" that seeks to ban opposition parties. Court hearings are scheduled for October 21, 22, and 23.
