Bidzina Ivanishvili expressed concern and disappointment regarding the criminal prosecution of former leaders – Shalva Papuashvili
According to the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, the issue of criminal liability for members of their team was discussed during meetings of the "Georgian Dream" Political Council and the parliamentary majority.
As Papuashvili noted, Bidzina Ivanishvili expressed concern and disappointment regarding this matter.
"Bidzina Ivanishvili spoke precisely about this; he expressed his concern and disappointment regarding the fact that former leaders are facing criminal prosecution. When an individual—who previously held the highest political offices—is subjected to criminal liability, it causes disappointment not only for Bidzina Ivanishvili but for the entire team," stated Papuashvili. According to him, no specific questions regarding Irakli Garibashvili were raised during the meeting; instead, the discussion focused more broadly on recent political developments and the issue of legal liability for political officeholders.
Papuashvili clarified that the matter of pardons was not discussed at the meeting. He noted that granting pardons falls within the President’s purview, and the topic was not addressed.
"Every prisoner has the possibility of receiving a pardon from the President, but there has been no discussion regarding this; furthermore, it is not within our jurisdiction—it is the President’s prerogative," stated the Speaker of the Parliament.
