"Georgian Dream" is further intensifying its authoritarian repressions—this is how the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) has responded to the ongoing proceedings at the Constitutional Court of Georgia, where a petition to ban five opposition parties is being considered.

As noted in an ALDE statement, the European Union should respond to the process of banning opposition parties by imposing stricter sanctions against those responsible.

"Major opposition parties now face the threat of a ban, which would effectively deprive hundreds of thousands of Georgian voters of political representation. This also affects parties that are members of our ALDE family. Having already targeted protesters, civil society, and independent media, 'Georgian Dream' is now launching a direct assault on the political opposition. The European Union must respond to this by imposing tougher sanctions against those responsible."
