Commemoration of the Martyrs Eulampius and his sister Eulampia (303–311); the Martyr Theotecnus (3rd–4th centuries); the Venerable Bassian (5th century); and the Venerable Theophilus the Confessor (8th century).
The martyrs Eulampius and Eulampia were siblings who lived in the city of Nicomedia. They were subjected to many torments by the pagans. Ultimately, Saint Eulampius was beheaded, while his sister, Saint Eulampia, perished as a result of the tortures.
The martyr Theotecnus was a renowned military commander in Antioch during the reign of Emperor Maximian. When the Emperor demanded that he worship pagan deities, Theotecnus refused, for which he was severely punished.
The Venerable Bassian was born in Eastern Syria. He pursued his ascetic life in Constantinople during the reign of Emperor Marcian. About three hundred monks labored in the monastery where the Venerable Bassian served as abbot. Venerable Bassianus lived in his monastery until a very advanced age.
At the age of 13, Saint Theophilos the Confessor secretly left for a monastery located on Mount Selentia and was tonsured as a monk.
