Minister of Culture Maia Bitadze visited the Vazha-Pshavela Professional State Drama Theatre in the city of Telavi. The theatre’s director, Zakaria Razmadze, and its artistic director, Nanuka Khuskivadze, briefed the Minister on-site regarding the condition of the building and the planned rehabilitation works.

Currently, the theatre building—which spans a total area of ​​4,703 square meters—is in a dilapidated and unsafe condition. "At the initiative of the Prime Minister, the theater will undergo large-scale rehabilitation works. We will create a theatrical space that meets modern standards. The project will be implemented by the Municipal Development Fund. This represents an investment of unprecedented scale and significance for the development of regional theatrical arts. Upon completion of the rehabilitation project, the city of Telavi will possess a completely renovated theatrical space, equipped with modern technology and adhering to high standards. This will enable the theater troupe to operate on an entirely new scale and host international festivals and visiting companies, which will significantly contribute to the revitalization of cultural life in the region and the development of tourism," stated Maia Bitadze.

According to the Ministry of Culture, the rehabilitation project for the state theater includes a comprehensive assessment of the building. Particular attention will be paid to preserving its architectural authenticity. The theater will be adapted to modern standards, which includes the installation of the engineering and technological systems necessary for its full-scale operation. Accompanying the Minister at the Telavi Vazha-Pshavela Professional State Drama Theatre were Deputy Minister Tamar Sharashidze, First Deputy State Representative in the Kakheti Region Giga Tushishvili, Mayor of Telavi Municipality Vazha Maghradze, and Head of the Ministry’s Infrastructure Development Department Giorgi Tikurishvili.
