For five days now, you have failed to substantiate which article of the Constitution the party "Gakharia for Georgia" is allegedly violating—this lawsuit is absurd and treacherous, says - Giorgi Sharashidze
During a plenary session of Parliament, Giorgi Sharashidze, one of the leaders of the party "Gakharia for Georgia," addressed the leader of the parliamentary majority, Irakli Kirtskhalia, stating that the ruling team has failed to demonstrate which article of the Constitution the party "Gakharia for Georgia" is violating, or what specific offense it is accused of committing.
According to Sharashidze, representatives of the ruling team failed to present any concrete or substantiated arguments against his party in the lawsuit filed with the Constitutional Court.
"I am not interested in what you accuse the 'Nats' [United National Movement] of; I am interested in what you accuse us of—especially since you added our political party to this absurd lawsuit at the very last minute, in a completely artificial manner. Therefore, today—given that you dedicated your speech against the 'Nats' to listing their alleged crimes—kindly address our supposed offenses, if any such offenses even exist." "Explain to us—specifically to the party 'Gakharia for Georgia'—what our offense is; tell us exactly which article of the Constitution we have violated," stated Sharashidze.
According to him, the statements made by government representatives confirm that they lack any substantiated arguments against the party.
Sharashidze accused the ruling team of steering the country toward one-party rule and dictatorship in order to retain power. In his assessment, the authorities are attempting to limit the public's ability to change the government through elections.
"Your sole motivation is the retention of power; obsessed with this desire to hold onto power, you are prepared to plunge the country into a one-party, dictatorial quagmire and drag it back to a dark, Soviet-style order. This is your primary objective—the only goal that drives you is to remain in power for as long as possible," Sharashidze declared. He also criticized the MPs who signed the lawsuit, noting that, in his view, they failed to fully grasp the responsibility they were undertaking by signing the document, nor did they consider the risks this process could pose to the country.
Sharashidze denied any connection between the party and the events of October 4, stating that his political team distanced itself from these occurrences—labeling them an irresponsible adventure and a provocation—while urging citizens to participate in the elections.
"Not only did we distance ourselves from the events of October 4—viewing them as a completely irresponsible adventure and provocation—but we also went door-to-door, encouraging people to take part in the elections. Our primary objective was to preserve the very concept of elections and to ensure that the Georgian people and our country did not fall into the trap you had set—that is, the adventure of October 4," Sharashidze declared.
In his assessment, the lawsuit filed against the party "Gakharia for Georgia" is groundless and serves political ends. "This is the truth; therefore, this lawsuit will remain an absurd and treacherous one," stated Giorgi Sharashidze.
