"Georgian Dream" seeks to destroy the opposition and establish a one-party system – Maia Kopaleishvili
According to Maia Kopaleishvili, a representative of the "Coalition for Change," the ruling team's objective—pursued through a lawsuit filed with the Constitutional Court to ban opposition parties—is to establish a one-party system and consolidate authoritarianism.
Kopaleishvili noted that the "Georgian Dream" lawsuit lacks any legal basis and is instead driven by political motives.
In her assessment, the ruling team aims to strengthen a one-party system, while subsequently presenting its own satellite political parties as the "real" opposition. "The ruling team is, naturally, making political statements. Their objective is political, not legal—ostensibly the restoration of constitutional order and a struggle to 'save democracy.' But that is not the case! They are fighting solely to establish a one-party system. They intend to activate their satellite political parties and present them as if they were the genuine opposition.
In reality, the situation is that 'Georgian Dream' seeks to fully entrench authoritarianism. They have already begun the process of establishing a one-party system.
I want to tell 'Georgian Dream' that they cannot deceive anyone with actions packaged in this manner; their legal petition is unsubstantiated and driven purely by political motives. None of the political parties named as respondents have committed any act contrary to the Constitution. There are no constitutional grounds whatsoever for their prohibition." "Georgian Dream is pursuing its own political objectives through the Constitutional Court—provided that the Constitutional Court blindly follows Georgian Dream’s political goals," stated Maia Kopaleishvili.
