There is a barrier to the restoration of diplomatic relations with Russia: the occupation of 20 percent of our country — Irakli Kobakhidze
"Our position regarding diplomatic relations is clear; unfortunately, there is a specific barrier to their restoration. If this barrier were to be removed, we would naturally be open to dialogue. However, the barrier still exists, and it consists of the occupation of 20 percent of our country," stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in response to a question concerning diplomatic relations with Russia.
As the head of government noted, the appointment of Giorgi Zurabashvili as the Prime Minister of Georgia’s Special Representative for Relations with Russia was a very significant step. "Naturally, our goal is to strengthen our communication channel. We are working in various areas, including trade and economic matters, as well as humanitarian issues. I would like to note that Mr. Giorgi Zurabishvili has already begun his work very effectively, and efforts in this direction will continue. This is our task—naturally, it is a matter of state importance; the state is at work, and this work will yield concrete, practical results," the Prime Minister stated.
