Foreign National Arrested for Circulating Large Amounts of Counterfeit Currency

Officers from the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in coordination with the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti District Prosecutor's Office, have arrested a foreign national for circulating a large quantity of counterfeit currency.

The investigation revealed that the accused, seeking illegal financial gain, circulated counterfeit 50- and 100-US-dollar bills in the Adjara region. In total, the individual circulated 231 counterfeit banknotes with a nominal value of 13,400 US dollars—comprising 194 fifty-dollar bills and 37 one-hundred-dollar bills.

As a result of the investigative actions, all the counterfeit banknotes were seized.

The investigation is being conducted under Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
