The German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, arrived at the April 9 Memorial. The diplomat laid a wreath at the memorial to those who died for Georgia’s freedom and paid tribute to their memory.

As the German Ambassador approached the memorial, the citizens present there could be heard shouting, “Thank you, thank you.”

“This day means freedom and independence for Georgia. What happened here on April 9, 1989, was half a year before the fall of the Berlin Wall. This connects Georgia and Germany and everyone in the world. If we look at the world today, we will see that the protection of freedom and independence remains important and vitally important.

I came here to support freedom and independence, and also to pay tribute to those who died,” Fischer said.
