Nauru's decision to sever diplomatic relations with the so-called independent republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia is a very important victory for Georgia's non-recognition policy and diplomatic efforts - Maka Bochorishvili
Nauru's decision to sever diplomatic relations with the so-called independent republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia is a very important victory for Georgia's non-recognition policy and the diplomatic efforts that the Foreign Service is carrying out to protect the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty in the international arena, - said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Bochorishvili.
“At the time, when Nauru made a decision to establish diplomatic relations, it was a gross violation of international law and norms. Of course, we have been constantly working with various partners to have this decision reversed. The work carried out recently, the result of which is today's decision, is particularly noteworthy.
First of all, I would like to congratulate all diplomats who are sparing no effort in working on the international arena to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, and, of course, I wish our country success in the steps taken to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.
This is a difficult process, not an easy one. The anniversary of the 2008 war is approaching. The result of this war was precisely the recognition of the independence of the Abkhazian and Ossetian regions and, unfortunately, the international consequences that followed this recognition on the international arena by Russia.
We will continue to work so that those decisions, "We demand that the illegally obtained documents be withdrawn and that we take the necessary steps to restore the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country," Bochorishvili said.
For information, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Nauru has severed diplomatic relations with Abkhazia and the so-called South Ossetia. According to the ministry, Georgia expresses its readiness to establish diplomatic relations with the Republic of Nauru and promote the intensification of bilateral cooperation based on common interests.
