A project to restore degraded forest will be implemented in the Tkibuli forestry district
The restoration project will cover a total area of 6 hectares within the Mukhuri and Satsiri forest units of the Tkibuli forestry district. Specialists from the National Forestry Agency will develop the restoration plan, with work scheduled to begin in 2027.
The Mukhuri area was once home to a mixed stand of Colchic boxwood and chestnut; however, this has since been destroyed due to the impact of pests. Following the fencing and clearing of the site, plans will be made to plant species that will help preserve the original ecosystem. In the Satsiri area, the planting of oak, pine, chestnut, and beech trees is currently envisioned. "The primary objective of the forestry reform is the restoration of degraded forests. This year, the National Forestry Agency has carried out forest restoration activities across nine regions of the country, covering an area of up to 2,600 hectares. Furthermore, under the long-term plan, forest restoration measures will be implemented over a total area of up to 51,000 hectares," stated Besik Amiranashvili, Head of the National Forestry Agency.
