The medicine "Givinostat" intended for patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy will be in Georgia next week, - said the Minister of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Protection of Georgia, Mikheil Sarjveladze.

According to Sarjveladze, various preparatory works have been carried out in cooperation with "Italpharmaco" and everything is ready to start using the medicine as soon as possible.

"The public is aware that on July 31 of this year, an agreement was signed with the Italian company "Italpharmaco", the manufacturer of the medicine "Givinostat", regarding the purchase of the same medicine by Georgia. Today we have another piece of good news – an airmail confirming the shipment of “Givinostat” to Georgia has been provided, which confirms that the medicine will be in Tbilisi at the beginning of next week.

So far, we have carried out intensive preparatory work in cooperation with “Italpharmaco”, including recording data about patients with maximum accuracy, creating a special register, approving the relevant rules, conducting trainings for doctors by foreign specialists, and everything is ready to start using the medicine in real practice as quickly as possible,” said Mikheil Sarjveladze.

In addition, Mikheil Sarjveladze thanked the company “Italpharmaco” for its cooperation.

“I would like to take this opportunity to once again express my gratitude, including on behalf of my parents, to the truly good employees of the company “Italpharmaco”. In the near future, a number of important global events will be held worldwide, which will concern medicines for rare diseases, and there we will definitely talk a lot about this successful cooperation. For information, on July 31, an agreement was signed with the Italian company “Italpharmaco” for the purchase of the medicine “Givinostat”, which is intended for patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. As the Minister of Health, Mikheil Sarjveladze, stated, Georgia is one of the first countries in the world to purchase the mentioned medicine and include it in the state program for managing the disease.
