Britain has sanctioned Marat Kambolov, Alan Gagloev, and Sergey Tolmachev, who are linked to Georgia’s illegally occupied regions
Today, the UK is imposing sanctions on 31 individuals, legal entities, and vessels under the "Russia sanctions regime" for activities that threaten Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence, according to a statement by the British Embassy in Georgia.
Among those sanctioned are three individuals linked to Georgia’s illegally occupied regions—Abkhazia and South Ossetia: Marat Kambolov, Alan Gagloev, and Sergey Tolmachev. "Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is part of a broader trend characterized by a disregard for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and internationally recognized borders of its neighbors. This includes the continued occupation of the Georgian regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
The UK condemns Russia’s attempts to consolidate its illegal control over Georgia’s occupied regions, including through the so-called 'presidential elections' held in South Ossetia on September 18 and subsequent steps taken toward de facto annexation.
The UK firmly supports Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders and continues to hold Russia accountable for its actions," reads the statement from the British Embassy.
Marat Kambolov is the 'president' of occupied South Ossetia, Alan Gagloev is the 'former president,' and Sergey Tolmachev is a Russian political strategist.
