We urge citizens to undergo screening to protect their health and reduce risks – Kakha Kaladze

The Mayor of the capital, Kakha Kaladze, has once again called on the public to take advantage of the relevant municipal program that funds breast cancer screening.

As he noted during the Tbilisi City Government meeting, women aged 40 to 70 can utilize the "Disease Screening" program completely free of charge.

"'Pink October' is the international month for breast cancer awareness; its goal is to raise public awareness regarding the importance of early diagnosis for the prevention of oncological diseases. Tbilisi City Hall funds breast cancer screening for women aged 40 to 70 within the framework of the 'Disease Screening' program. The program includes a consultation/examination with a mammologist and a mammography scan." "If an abnormality is detected, an ultrasound examination, biopsy, and cytology are performed," stated Kakha Kaladze.

The capital's mayor wished everyone good health and noted that receiving timely information about the disease significantly reduces risks.

"I would like to urge everyone once again to make use of this program and avail themselves of these screenings to protect their health—the health of every woman. I wish you all good health. We have programs designed for prevention that reduce risks and provide you with information regarding your health. It is worth noting that breast cancer is the most common type of cancer worldwide, including in Georgia. Therefore, timely diagnosis and regular screening—conducted before symptoms appear—are essential for reducing the risk of disease progression and mortality," Kakha Kaladze noted. In addition to the National Screening Center’s branches in Didube, Gldani, Saburtalo, and Varketili, several other medical facilities participate in the Tbilisi City Hall program.

Since the beginning of the year, approximately 28,000 citizens have undergone breast cancer screening. A total of 34,675 cases have been funded, with the National Screening Center accounting for 97 percent of them.
