GYLA urges the Ministry of Justice to make an immediate statement and periodically provide the public with information about the health condition of Mzia Amaglobeli
Mzia Amaglobeli, who is in illegal detention, has been on hunger strike for the sixteenth day. GYLA, as the organization defending her rights, urges the Ministry of Justice to make an immediate statement and periodically provide the public with information about her health condition, the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association wrote on social media.
“Mzia Amaglobeli, during a conversation with the Chairperson of GYLA, stated that her hunger strike is a protest against injustice and not an attempt to seek privileges. GYLA, as the organization defending her rights, calls on the Ministry of Justice to make an immediate statement and periodically update the public about her health condition. The prison administration is obligated to ensure comprehensive and effective monitoring of her health condition in accordance with a special protocol.
Additionally, GYLA appeals to:
The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia — to immediately terminate the case against Mzia Amaglobeli and request the court to change the preventive measure, as her actions do not constitute a criminal offense.
The Special Investigation Service — to inform the public about the stage of the investigation into the degrading treatment of Mzia Amaglobeli and explain why the Chief of Batumi Police, Irakli Dgebuadze, has not been suspended.
We remind the public that Mzia Amaglobeli is being punished by the system for her activities based on political motives, not because she committed any wrongdoing,” the statement reads.
