Zurab Abdushelishvili, the person involved in Omega’s scandalous case was appointed ambassador

Zurab Abdushelishvili, the businessman close to the government, was appointed ambassador of Georgia to Uzbekistan. The newly-made diplomat's name is associated with a number of high-profile scandals. Abdushelishvili was one of those businessmen who tried to bribe Zaza Okuashvili on behalf of the government and to keep him silent with the contract of many millions.

The MP Nato Chkheidze spoke about Zurab Abdushelishvili's connection with "Omega Group" case and she said that the businessman went to "Omega Motors" and expressed his desire to purchase 20 expensive cars. According to Nato Chkheidze, Abdushelishvili paid 2 million the same day and he planned to pay the remaining sum under the contractual terms. However, the customer suddenly requested to terminate the contract and to return the money already paid.

This decision coincides with the main development when Zaza Okuashvili had to make a major statement in exchange for all the proposals and the concessions from the government - he should have read the text written in advance on Imedi TV, where he would speak about Mikheil Saakashvili and Nika Gvaramia. He would also speak about Bidzina Ivanishvili's non-involvement and innocence in these issues.

Why did they appoint an inexperienced person ambassador and what does the opposition say?

Levan Tarkhnishvili, member of the political council of "European Georgia - Movement for Freedom" speaks about the past activities of the new ambassador and says that he is a businessman close to the ruling team.

“This is Zura Abdushelishvili, who is on friendly terms and is a business partner of the son-in-law of Guguli Maghradze; he is a friend and business partner of the donors of "Georgian Dream". His brother and he himself are on friendly terms with Kakha Kaladze and Mr. Bakhtadze. In Omega’s case he played the role of Bidzina Ivanishvili's courier. All this stuff was appraised and he got the appointment, even though there are no formal grounds and criteria for his appointment. He has been appointed in the country where his family has been making money for years, starting from Eduard Shevardnadze's period”, said Levan Tarkhnishvili.
