Georgia is not a platform where countries should sort out their relations with each other - Shalva Papuashvili

According to the statement of the Chairman of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, the territory of Georgia and the presence in Georgia should not be used for other states to sort out their relations with each other.

Papuashvili told journalists about this in connection with the statement of the Iranian Ambassador to Georgia.

“There was a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Of course, this was also discussed. You can ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs what exactly they talked about. In general, I can tell you that Georgia is not a platform where countries can sort out their relations with each other. It is clear that there is a desire or a task for this, the current relations between Iran and the US are understandable, however, I would like to appeal to everyone — the territory of Georgia and the presence in Georgia should not be used for sorting out their relations with each other. Georgia’s peace policy is clear to everyone,” Papuashvili said.

According to him, the main task for Georgia is to ensure that the country goes through all processes peacefully, in the context of the ongoing crises and wars in the region.

“As in other cases, whether there were other crises and wars related to Ukraine, which, unfortunately, have often happened around us, are happening and it seems that they will continue to happen in the future, the main thing for us is that Georgia goes through all these processes peacefully. With appropriate tools, political decisions, dialogue, conversations, you can see that we are achieving this and today we are a successful country both economically and politically,” the Speaker of the Parliament noted.

For information, the Iranian Ambassador to Georgia, Seyed Ali Mojani, stated that a meeting was held at the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where, according to him, a constructive conversation took place.

Earlier, a few days ago, the Iranian ambassador published a statement on social media, where he wrote: "When some countries, unwillingly or hastily, give up their space and territory to external adventurers, sooner or later they will suffer the price within the country itself - those who supported Trump are forced to pay the price."
