French Embassy issues statement on April 9
The French Embassy issues a statement on April 9, reaffirming France’s full and unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, adding that, together with the Georgian people, it remains committed to a peaceful, free and European future.
“On April 9, France joins all Georgians in celebrating National Unity Day, the date of the restoration of independence declared in 1918. On this day, France reaffirms its full and unwavering support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Georgia. Together with the Georgian people, it remains committed to a peaceful, free and European future.
April 9 is also a day of remembrance and commemorates the tragic suppression of the peaceful demonstrations of April 9, 1989, during which Georgian citizens sacrificed their lives in their quest for freedom against Soviet oppression.
In honor of their memory, the French Embassy in Georgia and the French School of the Caucasus, in front of the Parliament, laid flowers at the memorial to the fallen and together paid tribute to their courage!”, the embassy notes.
