Zaza Okuashvili Addresses To the Initiative Group For Creating Publicly Held Company

Businessman Zaza Okuashvili releases his statement about TV-9, where he addresses to the initiative group founded for creating publicly held company. Editorial “Tabloid” provides text of the address unchanged:

“I appreciate thankfulness expressed by you in my address. Also I am thankful for your trust related to membership of your association. I would not really limit myself with only my support and I would wish to be a member of your association, however just now my attention is concentrated on getting back the license of “Iberia”, broadcasting activities of which have artificially been suspended for already 10 years.

The current owner of the license of “Iberia” is the owner of Imedi TV. I am sure, to restore Iberia TV is necessary for existence of health media space in Georgia. The court hearing is appointed in September.

I hope the broadcast license of “Iberia” will be returned to its true owner, “Iberia TV” will start broadcasting and together with all other TV channels take part in building democracy of the country.

I think the society will be an active supporter of these processes” – the address says.

Few days ago, founders of Iberia TV made an announcement that Iberia TV was planning to restore its broadcasting activities and the founders were expressing their desire and readiness to consider possibility of receiving journalists and technical resources of TV-9. However, later on, on August 24, Zaza Okuashvili – the owner of Iberia TV – released such statement: “I had a desire and expressed my readiness to take part in receiving TV9 or its technical resources as I’m very sensitive regarding media business which I had in the form of “Iberia-TV”. On the other hand, there was an interest from joint stock companies. I respect their sincere desire to support the existence of an independent and politically free TV channel. I welcome this idea too. There are already thousands of people in a joint stock company. I don’t think it to be correct to be their competitor. Moreover, I wish them luck."
