National Bank is embroiled in another scandal, it turned out that “Liberty Bank” was not sold to “Basisbank” - Roman Gotsiridze
Politician, former president of the National Bank Roman Gotsiridze writes on social networks:
“The National Bank is embroiled in another scandal. It turned out that “Liberty Bank” was not sold to “Basisbank”, it was purchased by the Chinese construction company “Hualing” for 250 million dollars. It took this money as a loan from “TBS Bank”.
One bank bought another bank, which is a specific financial institution that serves 1.7 million individuals, or a construction company bought it, these are two completely different things. It turns out that one Chinese construction company has two banks in Georgia.
Is there an obligation to the National Bank to merge these two banks? If it cannot repay the debt of “TBS Bank” Will Liberty Bank be acquired by TBS Bank, which will also create other concentration risks? Will the resources of two Chinese banks be used to lend to one construction company, and will pensions and social benefits become one of the main sources of financing for Hualing? To what extent will two banks with one owner compete with each other in a healthy way?
The false information that Basisbank bought Liberty Bank is misleading the public and distorts the essence of the event.
The National Bank must immediately respond to the feasibility of this transaction. In fact, was one of the reasons for this not the operation to withdraw $250 million (plus dividends) to Rukhadze and the company, who are awaiting sanctions?
