Concerns about Russian troops in Moldova and Georgia, it is in the interest of European security that these troops are not there - Kaia Kalas

The European Union can, within the framework of negotiations on Ukraine, demand that Russia reduce its army and withdraw troops from Moldova and Georgia. The head of the European Union's foreign policy department, Kaia Kalas, stated this in a conversation with journalists upon arrival at the summit of EU foreign ministers in Limassol.

“Russia must respect international agreements in which it undertook not to attack its neighbors and to respect their sovereignty, but there are other issues as well. For example, mirroring the concessions demanded of Ukraine. If we are talking about reducing the armed forces, this should also concern Russia. And, of course, there are serious concerns about issues such as the Russian troops in Moldova and Georgia. It is in the interest of European security that these troops are not there. They did not interfere in the elections of other countries,” said Kalas.

Kalas noted that this is a “maximalist approach.”

“But Russia’s approach is also based on maximalist demands so far,” Kalas noted.
