Commemoration of the Holy Apostle Jude, brother of the Lord in the flesh (approx. 80); the Holy Martyr Zosimas the Horseman (II); the Venerable Fathers Paisius the Great (V) and John the Hermit (VI).
The Holy Apostle Jude was one of the twelve disciples of Christ, a descendant of Kings David and Solomon, and the son of the righteous Joseph, whom he had from his first wife. The Holy Apostle Jude died a martyr's death around the year 80.
The Holy Martyr Zosimas lived in the city of Apollonia during the reign of Trajan, the persecutor of Christians. The saint dreamed of becoming a Christian. When he learned about the persecution of Christians, he resigned from military service, was baptized, and led a righteous life. The ruler of Antioch, Domitian, was told that the horseman Zosima had betrayed the emperor, renounced his military rank, and joined the ranks of the Christians. At the trial, Zosima courageously confessed his Christianity and refused to sacrifice to pagan idols. He was brutally tortured.
