All those people, all those political leaders who, in total, won the “dream” in 2024, will end up either in prison or outside the country, this is the goal they have at the moment - Zura Japaridze
One of the opposition politicians accused in the so-called sabotage case, Zura Japaridze, stated that according to available information, the prosecutor’s office plans to quickly conclude the case and the process will likely be completed by the end of August.
According to him, he has information about this both through his own communication and from his lawyers.
“According to the personal communication we have with the prosecutor’s office, they plan to conclude the case very quickly. Maybe by the end of this month or at the beginning of August or in the middle of August. These are the estimated dates. In any case, it will not go beyond August, as far as I have an idea about it and my lawyers also tell me,” Japaridze stated.
According to his own assessment, the government’s goal is for opposition political leaders to either end up in prison or leave the country.
“All those people, all those political leaders who, in 2024, won the ‘dream’, will end up either in prison or outside the country. This is the goal they have at the moment,” he noted.
According to Japaridze, their arrest is also a signal sent to the West and, at the same time, serves to “clean up” the political field.
He said the accusations are related to the issue of sanctioning Bidzina Ivanishvili, although, as he noted, sanctioning a specific person is a political decision of the relevant countries, not the opposition.
"In short, the sanctioning of Ivanishvili turned out to be a problem. The sanctioning of Ivanishvili is considered to have weakened the country, therefore, everyone who worked on sanctions weakened the country because the West sanctioned Ivanishvili, but the sanctioning does not depend on us. We can say something a million times that someone should be sanctioned, but the sanctioning is the result of the specific policy of a specific country," said Zura Japaridze.
