Speaker promises clear response whenever EU spokesperson juggles Russian epithets against Georgians and their elected government
“I would remind the public once again that the European Commission spokesperson, with his statement of September 23, supported the October 4 assembly organised for the purpose of overthrowing the government,” declared Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia.
According to him, for ten days following that statement, he called on Brussels to clarify their position and distance themselves from the overthrow assembly, yet the response was zero.
“Then came October 4, the attempted overthrow began, it failed, and now they don’t want to share responsibility. Earlier, I mentioned that if violence were to occur, the European Commission would share responsibility for that violence precisely because of the spokesperson’s statement. Furthermore, we observe that the spokesperson has now commented twice following the failed attempt to overthrow the government on October 4. On both occasions, they criticised Georgia’s authorities rather than condemning the actions of the violent actors and those who stormed the presidential palace.
This is a feeble attempt to escape responsibility for what they did; namely, that they incited and declared external support for the assembly planned for October 4 to overthrow the government,” noted Shalva Papuashvili.
According to the Speaker of Parliament, such statements represent an example of verbal assault on the Georgian people and their government, which must cease.
“It is inconceivable that we should hear attacks on the elected government of the Georgian people from a single bureaucrat who has been elected by no one and appointed by his own leadership. There’s no point even discussing European standards here; it is unacceptable when an unelected bureaucrat attacks the democratically elected government of another country.
The spokesperson has become quite carried away with comparisons, making numerous references to Russian handbooks, intelligence services, and so forth. What they are engaged in is outright vulgar propaganda. While it is understandable that they are involved in propaganda, even propaganda should possess a certain style. Instead, they are engaged in utterly vulgar rhetoric against the Georgian people, resorting to ethnic epithets and frequently shifting between references to Russian handbooks, individual statements, and various other sources. This is unacceptable.
I wrote yesterday, and I want to say again today: every single time they appear and begin juggling Russian epithets against the Georgian people and their elected government, every single time, they will receive a sufficiently clear response from us. It is impossible for the Georgian people to accept such an approach when they are being regarded as nothing. A bureaucrat emerges with a condescending attitude, criticising the Georgian people and their elected government,” stated Shalva Papuashvili. (1tv.ge)
