How many hours and minutes does a person need to stay healthy
Chinese scientists have calculated the exact amount of sleep with an accuracy of hours and minutes that a person needs to stay healthy.
According to the Daily Mail, scientists from Nantong University in China have calculated the exact number of hours and minutes that each person needs to stay healthy and prevent serious diseases, such as type 2 diabetes.
According to scientists, the optimal amount of sleep is 7 hours and 18 minutes. This amount of sleep may be useful for preventing insulin resistance. In addition, researchers have found that oversleeping on weekends is just as dangerous as not getting enough sleep.
The team studied data from 23,000 American adults who recorded their sleep duration and blood sugar levels every night. A U-shaped relationship was observed between these measurements. The optimal amount of sleep for normalizing the sleep schedule was 7 hours and 18 minutes.
An extra two hours of sleep on the weekend had worse effects. “This creates a potentially vicious cycle in which metabolic dysregulation leads to disruption of normal sleep patterns, and the resulting abnormal sleep patterns (including increased sleep duration) further impair metabolism,” the researchers said.
However, they say that those who don’t get seven hours of sleep a night during the week can still catch up on sleep on the weekend.
