Davit Narmania explains why electricity tariffs increased
According to the statement of the Chairman of the Georgian Electricity Commission, Davit Narmania, the main reason for the increase in electricity tariffs is increased consumption, increased energy prices, and also the country's dependence on electricity imports during the autumn-winter months, - the Chairman of the Georgian Electricity Commission, Davit Narmania, told journalists after the meeting.
"The Regulatory Commission established household and non-household tariffs, both in the capital and in the regions, at today's session. The tariff increase for the population is 5 tetri, and for the non-household sector - up to 4-6 tetri, depending on individual voltage levels. The main reason for the tariff increase is increased consumption, increased energy prices, and also the country's dependence on imported electricity during the autumn-winter months. In addition, only the optimal volume of investment was taken into account in order to, on the one hand, gradually reduce the number of accidents in the network and, on the other hand, improve the electricity supply situation for the population, as well as for the commercial sector.
Therefore, the volume of investment was recently adjusted and approved by the Regulatory Commission in such a way that it would not have a very large impact on the tariff. However, without investments, the Commission believes that the situation would worsen. It would increase Accidents, outages. Therefore, the population would be more affected, as well as for the commercial sector, power outages are very significant losses,” - said Narmania.
For information, at today's session of the Electricity and Gas Commission, it was decided that in Tbilisi, as well as in the regions, the electricity consumer tariff will increase by 5 tetri. In addition, from April 1, the electricity tariff will also increase for the commercial sector.
