Migration Department Detains 42 Foreign Nationals
As part of the fight against illegal migration, employees of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted special immigration control measures in Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi.
As a result of the complex measures, 42 foreign nationals were detained, including citizens of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Iraq, China, Burkina Faso, the Philippines, Jordan, Russia, Thailand, Sudan and Nepal.
As part of the measures taken, the department's employees checked specific locations and facilities of various purposes, which aimed to identify foreign nationals staying in Georgia without legal grounds.
It was determined that the detained persons were in the country in violation of the requirements established by the Law of Georgia "On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons".
The detainees are currently being held at the Migration Department's temporary detention center. Relevant procedures are underway to expel them from the country.
It should be noted that the intensive immigration control measures taking place across the country have taken on a preventive nature, which has led to illegal aliens in Georgia voluntarily leaving the country. In the first quarter of this year, 2,030 illegal aliens have already left Georgia voluntarily.
