Orthodox Church Celebrates Palm Sunday
The Orthodox Church celebrates Palm Sunday today.
The Patriarchal Throne, Metropolitan Shio (Mujiri) of Senaki and Chkhorotsku, will celebrate a liturgy at the Sioni Patriarchal Cathedral at 10:00. After the liturgy, a funeral service will be held in memory of the soul of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II.
Palm Sunday is one of the 12 Lord's feasts and is celebrated on the Sunday before Easter. On this day, the Church commemorates the Savior's glorious entry into Jerusalem.
According to the Gospel, after raising Lazarus from the dead, Christ arrived in Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover holiday. He entered the city riding a donkey, and the population greeted him with celebration. They spread their own garments and palm branches over the Savior and sang: “Hosanna to God in the highest! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.” On this day, believers go to the temple with boxwood branches, which they then keep throughout the year.
