If Russian oil were to enter Britain again, it would show how hypocritical the British government is, which demanded that Georgia not import oil products from Russia - Shalva Papuashvili
If Russian oil were to enter Britain again, it would only mean one thing, how hypocritical the British government is, which demanded that Georgia not import oil products from Russia, - said the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili.
According to him, some time ago, it was the British ambassador who personally went to the parliament, including the parliament, requesting meetings with various members of parliament, sometimes over tea, sometimes in the office, sometimes in a semi-threatening tone, and spoke in a semi-threatening tone that Russian oil products should not be imported into Georgia.
"When the ambassador was asked how Georgia should do this, he said that sanctions were not necessary, we should put pressure on businesses so that they would not import. This is the idea of the current British ambassador. In reality, he meant that in the end we should have imposed sanctions either on Russia or put pressure on businesses. When they told him that if oil products do not import, then it will turn out that businesses will have to find another market, which will make gasoline prices in Georgia more expensive, his answer was, what can I do, life will also become more expensive for our citizens. Today we learn that Britain itself has lifted the sanctions. If the current British ambassador had listened to us, economic ties with Russia would probably have been severed altogether, if we did not import oil, they would probably have imposed an embargo. We would have fallen into economic collapse. Such "Unfortunately, international politics is immoral. The morality is that if we do not take care of ourselves, neither the British ambassador nor any other country's representative will take care of our concerns," Papuashvili said.
For information, Great Britain eased sanctions on Russian oil due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
