G7 leaders issue joint statement on Ukraine, Middle East and Indo-Pacific

The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) have issued a joint statement on support for Ukraine, developments in the Middle East and security in the Indo-Pacific region.

The statement said that the G7 countries remain committed to Ukraine’s freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity. The leaders expressed their solidarity with the Ukrainian people, who are suffering as a result of attacks on critical infrastructure and cultural heritage, and stressed that new dynamics have been created on the battlefield in recent months.

To support this process, the G7 agreed to increase the provision of air defense capabilities, additional systems and launchers, as well as long-range capabilities to Ukraine. The leaders also expressed their readiness to consider expanding licenses, which would contribute to the growth of military production in Ukraine.

The statement also emphasized the importance of Ukraine's energy sustainability. The G7 stated that, taking into account the requirements and priorities of the Ukrainian side, it would provide additional assistance to the country to overcome the upcoming winter.

In addition, the leaders stated that they would increase pressure on Russia's war economy and strengthen sanctions, including on the oil and gas sectors. In their assessment, the time is right for taking additional measures, since, according to the statement, US President Donald Trump has reached an agreement supported by the G7 and related to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Turning to the Middle East, the G7 stated that a significant opportunity has been created in the region. The leaders welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, which, according to the statement, was signed under the leadership of President Donald Trump and with the support of intermediary countries. They said the agreement represented a historic opportunity to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and to counter regional and ballistic threats.

The G7 said it supported the implementation of the agreement and was ready to contribute accordingly. They also stressed the importance of unhindered transit through the Strait of Hormuz for international trade and noted that the multinational defense initiative, led by France and the UK, could play an important role in restoring maritime traffic, protecting merchant ships and verifying the complete clearance of mines.

The statement also said the G7 supported a broader diplomatic agreement based on the memorandum that would ensure peace and security in the region. The leaders said the talks should address the threats posed by Iran and ensure that the country never acquires a nuclear weapon.

On the issue of Lebanon, the G7 supports an immediate and firm ceasefire and states that it will support the Lebanese authorities' efforts to disarm Hezbollah and establish exclusive state control over weapons.

Regarding Gaza, the leaders pledge to accelerate humanitarian assistance and the reconstruction process and call for an end to violence in the West Bank.

The G7 also states that it will accelerate the diversification of energy supply routes in order to reduce the world economy's dependence on the Strait of Hormuz and increase energy supplies. In this context, Canada's potential to provide additional energy resources to the world market in the coming years is positively assessed.

Regarding the Indo-Pacific region, the leaders emphasize the importance of a free and open region based on the principles of international law. They oppose any unilateral change of the status quo in the East and South China Seas and the Taiwan Strait by force or coercion, and affirm that existing issues should only be resolved through peaceful dialogue.

The statement also expresses deep concern about North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs. The G7 reaffirms its commitment to the country's complete denuclearization in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and calls on Pyongyang to immediately resolve the abduction issue. The leaders also note the need for joint action against North Korea's cybercrime and illicit activities related to cryptocurrencies.

The document welcomes the "Global Summit on Enhancing Global Convergence" organized by French President Emmanuel Macron on June 11, 2026, in which China also participated. The leaders announced that they intend to continue cooperation on the causes of global economic imbalances among major economies and ways to eliminate them within the G20 format and other international platforms.
