Despite the fact that the resolutions of the European Parliament are ineffective, the Georgian side cannot completely ignore them, because these documents are used to create distorted narratives that aim to harm Georgia's national interests - Maka Bochorishvili

Georgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Bochorishvili spoke on the Imedi LIVE program about the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on Georgia. According to the minister, despite the fact that the aforementioned documents are ineffective, the Georgian side cannot completely ignore them, because these documents are used to create distorted narratives that aim to harm Georgia's national interests.

"We have already seen that resolutions have no power and do not mean much. When this resolution and report were approved by the European Parliament, in the Foreign Affairs Committee, then our statement was made. We paid some attention to them for a very simple reason. We have often heard from European politicians themselves and the Brussels bureaucracy that we should not pay much attention to the resolutions of the European Parliament, that they do not have a decisive importance for the policy of the European Union. Nevertheless, for us the European Parliament is the same institution of the European Union as the European Commission and the Council of the European Union. Accordingly, we cannot completely ignore their documents based on the fact that they reflect the views of certain politicians, a certain narrative is formed. These are documents built on completely lies, completely false narratives, which are created with the sole purpose of harming the interests of our country and tarnishing the reputation of our country. This has no power, these documents have no political weight, although it is unacceptable for us, "Even if three MEPs attack our country and our society in such a way, completely without foundation, based on lies and without an answer, let us leave their campaigns against our country, which have been going on for many years and aim at only one thing - to harm the national interests of our country," the Minister of Foreign Affairs said.

The head of the Foreign Ministry also responded to the video address of MEP Rasa Jukneviciene on the issue of EU enlargement.

“Ms. Rasa has a habit of saying things openly that shed light on the entire attitude towards this process. We have repeatedly discussed why the EU enlargement policy was activated in 2022. Today’s process shows even more clearly how instrumental the offer of EU membership in 2022 was for Ukraine, which is at war, and other countries in our region. Before 2022, there was a period when the European Commission completely removed the enlargement portfolio from the Commission’s mandate and they did not even have an Enlargement Commissioner. Such a commission also existed in previous years. It was not relevant, and after the war, the EU enlargement policy became relevant. Was the war necessary for the EU to think about geopolitical necessity? These are really difficult admissions from Ms. Rasa, which requires even more analysis from our society as to why these people are using EU enlargement,” Maka Bochorishvili noted.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the special importance of the EU integration process for Georgia, both from an ideological and practical point of view. “We have repeatedly said that this is a very important thing for us – our integration with the EU, based on our history, culture, and identity. This is an important geopolitical area or space where we see ourselves. For us, this is a very important issue, not only ideological, but also of practical importance, and at this time it was a different kind of tool for others,” said Maka Bochorishvili.
