We will not return to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe - Nikoloz Samkharadze
The draft resolution of the Council of Europe states that the Parliamentary Assembly confirms the resolution of January 2025 and it is the January resolution that is the reason why we suspended our activities in the Assembly, - said Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations.
“The initial version of the resolution that we saw is practically no different from the previous versions. It does not reflect at all the developments that have taken place in Georgia over the past 12 months. Therefore, it is clear that the authors of this resolution, as well as the people who will vote for this resolution, have no desire to cooperate or engage in dialogue with the Georgian authorities. It has also become clear that their visit here was of no use. It was simply a visit to record their presence in Georgia. This resolution will completely refute the statements that they have made to us in various parliamentary forums that they want the Georgian delegation to return to work in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The draft resolution states that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe endorses the January 2025 resolution, and the January 2025 resolution is precisely the reason why we suspended Our activities in the Assembly. Therefore, their demand that Georgia return to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is completely meaningless and has no justification. A year and a half has already passed since January 2025, and after a year and a half, they are still confirming the previous resolution. Therefore, we will make a decision based on our interests and the interests of the country. Of course, this decision will be that we will not return to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe until the mandates of our delegation are fully and unconditionally known,” said Nikoloz Samkharadze.
For information, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will discuss the report prepared on Georgia on June 24, hold a debate and vote on the report. The co-rapporteurs are Edith Estrella and Sabina Chudich.
