The West Could Not Satisfy Its “Bloodlust” with the 2008 Russo-Georgian War - Dmitry Medvedev

cording to the statement of the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, the Western countries used Georgia against Russia in 2008, but they could not satisfy their “bloodlust” with this conflict and took into account their own mistakes.

Medvedev made this statement at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.

According to him, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Western countries used “puppet regimes” against Russia and named Georgia as an example of this. According to Medvedev, in August 2008, Georgia “carried out aggression against Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” after which the Russian armed forces conducted a “peacekeeping operation” and stopped the bloodshed.

"We must admit that Europe and the United States acted wisely at that time and did not get involved in the conflict. We agreed, so to speak, on a bad peace. But, unfortunately, the other side could not satisfy its bloodthirstiness and realized its own mistakes," Medvedev said.
