Fuel shortage in Russia also affected Abkhazia – Institute for the Study of Democracy
According to the Institute for the Study of Democracy (DRI), the problems caused by the fuel shortage in Russia have also affected occupied Abkhazia. According to the organization, according to local residents, fuel prices have increased by more than 10% in the regions of Abkhazia bordering Russia.
According to the DRI, although there is no fuel shortage in occupied Abkhazia at this stage, the increase in prices indicates that the crisis in Russia is also affecting the region.
The organization, citing the publication Caucasian Knot, notes that problems with fuel supply in Russia have been ongoing for more than a month. According to them, there are long lines at gas stations, gasoline dispensing limits are in effect, and the situation has been aggravated by drone attacks on oil refineries, which have disrupted fuel production and logistics chains.
According to DRI, these problems are gradually spreading to regions that are significantly dependent on Russian fuel.
According to a press release issued by DRI, at the moment there are no fuel shortages or queues at gas stations in occupied Abkhazia, although price increases are observed especially in those regions located close to the Russian border.
According to the organization, the de facto Abkhazian Ministry of Energy has not made an official statement regarding the increase in fuel prices. DRI notes that if the fuel shortage and supply disruptions in Russia continue, the pressure on the Abkhazian market will also increase and the price increase will no longer be limited to the border regions.
