OSCE has become an instrument of political pressure, and criticism of Georgia is based on false accusations - Maria Zakharova

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing that Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze's assessments of the OSCE and European institutions do not require additional confirmation from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

According to Zakharova, Kobakhidze is the leader of a sovereign state that represents his own country, and modern Georgia, in her assessment, is a vivid example of foreign interference.

"Tbilisi's aspiration to pursue an independent and national interests-oriented policy is perceived as a challenge by the collective West. That is why their representatives are ready to use all levers to change the current government only because it serves the interests of its own people," Zakharova said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry representative also commented on the Hague Declaration of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, which, according to her, includes a resolution on the assessment of the elections held in Georgia, as well as a document related to Ukraine, which condemns “Russian aggression.”

Zakharova stated that the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, in her assessment, has long refused to promote cooperation between states and acts with aggressive rhetoric. According to her, this is why the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation decided to suspend its participation in the work of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly on July 3, 2024 and sees no grounds for returning at this stage.

According to her, the OSCE, unfortunately, has lost its unique mechanisms for preventing and resolving conflicts, and some states use the organization’s platform to criticize Russia and other countries.

Zakharova also criticized the OSCE’s so-called The “Moscow Mechanism,” which, in her opinion, is an outdated, non-consensual and “pseudo-human rights” instrument. According to her, this mechanism was launched against Georgia on January 29, 2026, citing the deterioration of the human rights situation.

“If all this really had anything to do with human rights, then there would be a response to other cases as well. Therefore, everything they say about Georgia is false and untrue,” Zakharova said.

According to her, the “Moscow Mechanism” has been launched against Russia eight times since 2022, and against Belarus three times, although the conclusions presented in the reports of this mechanism are “legally and politically meaningless” for Russia.
