Special Tribunal for the Crime of Russian Aggression Needs to Have a Global Character - Andriy Sibiga
According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga, a special tribunal for the crime of Russian aggression will be located in The Hague and its creation has already received official confirmation. According to Sibiga, the tribunal should have a “global character” and should not be limited to Europe.
“We have certain political signals. It is necessary for this tribunal to have a global character. Today it is no longer limited to Europe. This is very important for the inevitability of justice and punishment,” Sibiga said.
According to the minister, the political process of creating a special tribunal began on May 9, 2025 in Lviv, and now the project is already entering the practical stage. He said the choice of The Hague confirms that the tribunal is “no longer an abstract idea” but a real mechanism that will raise the issue of accountability of senior Russian officials.
Sibiga also noted that the formation of the infrastructure of the tribunal, the appointment of judges and procedural mechanisms will begin in the near future. He said that Ukraine continues to consolidate the support of international partners and assesses the recent massive attacks by Russia as “steps directed against peacekeeping efforts.”
