Deciphering real spy networks and arresting their members belong to the category of investigative measures that much stronger and larger states often have difficulty with - Mamuka Mdinaradze
I would like to thank the State Security Service and the employees of its Counterintelligence Department for the very successful counterintelligence measures carried out over the past few days, - said the Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia, State Minister for Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies, Mamuka Mdinaradze, at a briefing held at the Government Administration.
As the Deputy Prime Minister noted, carrying out such measures - deciphering real spy networks and arresting their members - belongs to the category of operational and investigative measures that much stronger and larger states often have difficulty with.
"As you know, one of the two people arrested by the State Security Service on charges of espionage is accused of obtaining intelligence information for the benefit of two different states. The second defendant is accused of espionage and a kind of leadership of the spy network, who distributed funds and tasks to representatives of the network.
The said person was a resident of the so-called special service of the same state, according to the charges, for whose benefit we arrested one defendant a few weeks ago on charges of transmitting intelligence information. This really resulted in quite positive communication between the relevant services, however, we must emphasize that two days ago the State Security Service arrested only those people who, despite warnings, did not stop certain movements in the mentioned direction even after previous arrests. Hopefully, in this case, the correct conclusions will be drawn by the relevant services or specific individuals.
Everyone should know that today the Georgian state, "The Georgian special services, Georgian law enforcement officers, and the security system are so strong that they can carry out unprecedented measures for our country - deciphering real spy networks and detaining their members, which belongs to the category of operational and investigative measures that much stronger and larger states often have great difficulty with," Mamuka Mdinaradze noted.
