Until Georgia becomes a full member of the European Union, it will be difficult for the country to fully align with the EU’s foreign policy – Maka Bochorishvili

We are already working to prepare the next report, submitting materials and providing answers to the questionnaire, so that the European Commission has the opportunity to assess it, – said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Bochorishvili, in Parliament.

According to her, they also intend to submit comments to the European Commission regarding the 2025 enlargement report.

“Along with the report, we intend to also submit to the European Commission our comments, comments that were made by various agencies regarding the 2025 enlargement report, so that the issues that were unfairly assessed in the 2025 report, if we can call it an assessment, do not remain unanswered,” said Maka Bochorishvili.

As for Georgia's alignment with the EU's foreign and security policy, Bochorishvili estimates that until Georgia becomes a full member of the EU, it will be difficult for the country to be fully aligned with the EU's foreign policy.

“The only issue that I will touch upon as a problematic topic for us in the context of the European Commission’s assessment is Georgia’s alignment with the EU’s foreign and security policy, which is often measured only by the statistics of adherence to EU statements. Given the geopolitical location of our country, the occupation of two of our regions by Russia, and the security challenges, we must be extremely cautious when assessing any process, especially when taking specific foreign policy steps. We will never allow ourselves to create an additional threat to national interests with the desire to improve simple statistics. Accordingly, until Georgia becomes a full member of the EU, it will be difficult for the country to be in full alignment with the EU’s foreign policy,” said Maka Bochorishvili.
