NATO summit to open in Ankara today. Leaders of 32 member states, including US President Donald Trump, will gather in the Turkish capital Ankara.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will join NATO leaders for the dinner scheduled for today.
According to media reports, as part of the summit, NATO foreign ministers will meet with their counterparts from Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, and will also hold talks with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister and EU foreign policy chief Kaya Kalas.
NATO defense ministers will hold talks with their Australian, Japanese, New Zealand and South Korean counterparts. According to information posted on the NATO website, the leaders will discuss three main topics at the summit: investment in defense, increasing defense production and support for Ukraine.
“Our security is inextricably linked to the security of Ukraine. While Russia’s war against Ukraine continues, Allies will continue to provide Ukraine with unprecedented levels of military assistance, which will help increase its defense capabilities. The Ankara summit will continue to deepen NATO’s support for Ukraine, help the country meet its urgent defense needs and ensure that Allies’ military support is long-term,” the information states.
