Nothing good will come out of Junkeviciene's hands regarding Georgia, but it is also significant that he has been given the opportunity to prepare the ground for an attack on the Georgian Church - Shalva Papuashvili
It is clear that nothing good will come out of Junkeviciene's hands regarding Georgia, but it is also significant that he has been given the opportunity to prepare the ground for an attack on the Georgian Church, - the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili told journalists in Serbia.
“I said at the time that this is the first time that an EU institution has attacked the Georgian Church, which is absolutely unacceptable. A red line must be drawn here so that no one, including any EU institution, dares to attack the Georgian Church, its large congregation. It is clear that nothing good will come out of Junkevici’s hands regarding Georgia, but it is also significant that he was allowed to prepare the ground for an attack on the Georgian Church. That is why it is important now to react very harshly and directly so that this does not become a precedent and no one from any EU institution dares to attack the Georgian Church again,” Papuashvili said.
As a reminder, on June 17, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on Georgia prepared by Rasa Jukneviciene, which states regarding the Georgian Church: “The Orthodox Church is still an influential institution in Georgian society, and we express concern about Russia’s use of religious networks as channels for disinformation and influence.”
For your information, the Head of the Public Relations Service of the Patriarchate, Archpriest Andria Jagmaidze, responded to the latest European Parliament report on Georgia and noted that “it is very regrettable that such a report was included in this European Parliament resolution.”
“I think the diagnosis of this is that with their ignorance, their wrong policy and unhealthy attitude towards the Church and the voice of the Church, they have reached this situation where anti-European sentiments are increasing in Georgia,” Jagmaidze said.
