US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that at 7:15 p.m. Eastern Time, US forces conducted their third series of airstrikes against Iran this week.

According to the Central Command, the operation began after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked the M/V GFS Galaxy, a Cypriot-flagged container ship, while it was sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the statement, one civilian crew member is missing, and the ship was unable to continue its voyage due to a fire on board and significant damage to its engine compartment.

CENTCOM assessed that Iran had another opportunity to comply with its obligations under the memorandum of understanding after being held accountable for previous attacks on commercial vessels, but the US said Tehran had again failed to take advantage of the opportunity.

In response, the US Central Command said the United States was continuing to degrade Iran’s capabilities to prevent it from attacking civilian sailors and commercial vessels freely navigating the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement said the military strikes were carried out at the direction of the US Supreme Commander.
